Nothing ruins a night out with friends faster than a traffic stop that results in drunk driving charges. According to WIRED, fatal drunk driving collisions are on the rise. As a result, law enforcement personnel are more vigilant than ever when it comes to identifying and charging impaired motorists.
People who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol do not do so with the intention of causing a motor vehicle collision, but getting into an accident is a very real possibility when impaired. Alcohol affects concentration, coordination, and even depth perception, and having these reduced faculties ultimately inhibits a motorist’s ability to drive safely.
Police know that people are more likely to drink and drive on holidays, so they take a more aggressive approach to identifying and arresting intoxicated motorists on those days. For example, they might send more patrol cars out in traffic and station extra officers near bars and nightclubs in order to watch for patrons who stumble to their vehicles after leaving the premises.
